JOURNEYMAN OR SKILLED CARPENTER

As a Journeyman Carpenter or Skilled Carpenter at Gibson Contracting, you have the desire and passion to help construct unrivalled wood frame residential housing. 

A Day in the life of a Gibson Journeyman Carpenter or Skilled Carpenter: 

• Observe and comply with all health and safety regulations
• Frame structures, including doors and windows
• Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment
• Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and the work does not exceed your limitations
• Contribute and participate in the effective use of the Quality Control System
• Respect and respond to direction given
• Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures
• Other duties as required

Experience & Education: 

• Post-secondary education/certification in carpentry. 
• 5 years of experience as a Carpenter
• 3 years of experience working in heavy construction
• Valid Driver’s License
• Knowledge of safe operation of carpentry tools
• Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
• Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
• Time management skills
• Ability to read building specifications, blueprints and as-builds
• Receptive to change and able to adapt to changing circumstances
• Make suggestions for improvement
• Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current
• Physically fit to carry out work
• Comfortable working from heights
• Sense of urgency and an ability to meet tight deadlines
